EBOOK CONVERSION

My expert ebook conversions look very similar to their print counterparts when viewed on e-reading devices and apps. This sets MINDthe MARGINS apart from others that do ebook conversions, and certainly from third-party conversion tools. I work directly in the HTML coding to maintain the most control over the design of the ebook - I don't use third-party conversion tools. This is what allows me to create ebooks that look so similar to their print version or to create unique and dynamic original ebooks.
THE PROCESS
STEP 1. Contact Lorie by email and tell her about your book: Do you already have a print version? If so, do you have access to the source files (usually a Word doc or InDesign file)? Do you know which ebook retailers you'll be using?
And very important for the conversion process - What sort of formatting does your ebook require? Are there illustrations or graphics? Does it include tables or textboxes/pull quotes? Does it have footnotes, endnotes, or outlines?
An estimate will be provided for your specific project. (It's ok if you don't know the answers to some of these questions. Lorie can provide guidance, as needed, too.)
STEP 2. You will receive a contract for the project and, if I'm not able to get the information needed from seeing your print file, you'll be asked to provide more information about your ebook and how you'd like it to look.
The final edited manuscript and any illustrations/images you'd like included will need to be provided to Lorie before any progress can be made on Step 3.
STEP 3. Typically within about 5 to 10 business days, you'll receive the ebook files for review and final proofing. These will include MOBI files (for Kindle) and EPUB files (for all other retailers). Lorie will provide instructions for how to access these files as well.
NOTE - The exception to the above description would be if you don't have a print version of your book - in that case you'd receive several initial ebook sample files and would be asked to decide what you like or dislike about each sample and its elements - colors, fonts, general layout, image presentation (if there are any). Elements between samples could be mixed and matched at this point or new ideas explored until the final design is determined.
STEP 4. During the review and final proofing process you will provide notes to Lorie indicating any final revisions that may be needed. Twenty revisions per 25,000 words are typically included in the contract.
STEP 5. You'll be provided with your final upload-ready and validated files for submission to the ebook retailers of your choice.
Lorie will remain available to address any issues that could arise during the upload process to your chosen retailers.
